What are Tags or Content Tags?

Listen to this episode of FreeSocialMediaHelp.com Podcast

Tags are tiny bits of information that are assigned to a piece of information (picture, video, blog post) that help to describe an item and allow it to be found again in the various search engines.  Tags are generally chosen by the person who posted the content but can usually be added by other parties in a Web 2.0 environment.

If you haven’t started using tags because you haven’t understood them, now is the time to get started. Don’t worry if you haven’t, if you’ve been blogging you can always go back later and tag the content with keyword rich terms at any point.

If you’ve done any keyword research be sure to add relevant keywords to each blog post, picture or video you post.

Also start looking at the tags that others use and feel free to swipe and use on your own when relevant.  The beauty in this is that I might think to tag this post with the following “tags, content tags, social bookmarking” but found it also might be useful to tag with “tag, tagging, classification, knowledge management”. Had I not looked around to see what others were calling this type of content I would have never have though of it in that way.

Happy Tagging!
